Healthcare professionals in Santa Cruz need flexible training options. Rigid classroom schedules don’t work for everyone—especially nurses, EMTs, and physicians managing demanding shifts at Dominican Hospital (1555 Soquel Drive) or Sutter Maternity & Surgery Center of Santa Cruz (2900 Chanticleer Avenue). Safety Training Seminars solves that problem.
Located at 1515 Capitola Rd, Unit G—just off the corner of Capitola Road and 16th Avenue—Safety Training Seminars offers Self-Guided Learning™ courses for BLS, ACLS, and PALS through the American Heart Association®. You study online at your own pace, then complete a self-guided skills session locally. No fixed class times. No group schedules.
Self-Guided Learning™ combines two components:
Both components are completed independently. Upon successful completion of both, learners receive an American Heart Association Course Completion eCard for BLS, ACLS, or PALS.
This is not instructor-led training. There is no live coaching, no scheduled classroom event, and no waiting for a group to assemble. You control the pace from start to finish.
The online portion uses True Adaptive™ learning powered by Area9 Lyceum. This technology continuously assesses your knowledge and confidence, then adjusts your content path accordingly. If you already understand a concept, the system moves you forward. If you have a knowledge gap, it focuses more time there.
The result is a personalized learning pathway that is efficient and competency-focused. You are not sitting through material you already know.
You can complete the online learning activity from anywhere—your apartment near the UC Santa Cruz campus, a break room at Watsonville Community Hospital (75 Nielson Street), or your home in Capitola. Any compatible device works.
After completing the online learning activity, you schedule a self-guided skills session at the CPR Verification Station™ learning center at Safety Training Seminars’ Santa Cruz office.
During the skills session, you perform required psychomotor skills independently. The CPR Verification Station learning center provides real-time, objective performance feedback—measuring compression depth, recoil, rate, and ventilation against AHA-defined criteria. There is no instructor present. You receive objective feedback from the station itself.
If you need to repeat a skill, you can. Practice continues until you achieve a passing score.
Skills session duration:
Upon successful completion of both the online learning activity and the self-guided skills session, you receive your American Heart Association Course Completion eCard the same day.
Self-Guided Learning™ courses work best for:
Safety Training Seminars has operated as a woman-owned American Heart Association Training Center since 1989. The Santa Cruz office serves the broader community—from healthcare workers near the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk corridor to professionals in Capitola Village and beyond.
Here is what sets the Santa Cruz location apart:
The Santa Cruz office sits at ground level on Capitola Road—easily accessible from Highway 1 and the broader Monterey Bay area.
The process takes three steps:

EXCELLENT Based on 570 reviews Posted on Megan reclusadoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Completing this course was super easy. I was able to walk in and test on the mannequins and it took less than 10 minutes. This is great for busy professionals or people who don’t have a whole day to spend and it be a less class 10 out of 10 would recommendPosted on Loren WeberTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Good way to renew for sure. I’d recommend. If it’s your first time spend extra time going over materials and watching how to videos. Also make use of the practice option during the skills portion in person. But this was a rad set up and way to get it done! Two thumbs upPosted on carmen sotoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Very efficient. Easy to navigate. Going in person was easy to access. Had no questions, everything was CLEAR!Posted on Josey BillatTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Simple layout, communicative staff, easy location to find. One tip would be to look at the mannequin if you feel confident and not at the screen. I noticed an improvement in my depth volume, rhythm, recoil, and breath volume when I trusted myself. Do the practice assessment first. It only takes about 30 seconds and will identify areas the needing more work.Posted on Adrian ChristenTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
